Golden grass jewelry from Brazil

Golden grass jewelry from Brazil

During our last days in Beja, Portugal we visited the huge yearly farmer’s fair Ovibeja. A 5 days festival where you can see and buy everything (remotely) related to farming. Our truck was a bit too small to buy a cow or a tractor. But not too small to buy earrings made from golden grass.

Ribbons and buttons in Satwa, Dubai

Haberdashery store in Satwa, Dubai

Al Satwa is one of my favorite areas in Dubai.  This residential and shopping area is very alive, especially after sunset. A mix of nationalities like Arab, Indian, Southeast Asian and some European stroll on the streets, having something to eat or shop or just having fun. It has an eclectic mix of shops and places to eat, from cheap and cheerful curry house to Lebanese sweet shops, Persian bakeries and pizzerias.

Bead and handicraft store in Beja, Portugal

Beadshop in Beja, Alentejo, Portugal

While on our way to Morocco, we like to stay at the campsite in Beja, Portugal. Not only because it’s a very decent campsite for only a couple of euro and within walking distance of supermarkets. No, for me the most important reason is the bead and handicraft store.

Bead bezelled Swarovski rivoli - a draft design

Bead bezelled Swarovski rivoli by Esfera Jewelry

Starting of with a few Swarovski rivoli’s – I got seriously ‘bead bezelled’ inspired and made a draft design to complete a previously unfinished project. It was great beading work done – but both didn’t match, resulting in two unfinished objects; Help! – who has idea’s?

Crystals and gemstones in Dubai, UAE, The Middle East

Crystals and gemstones in Dubai, UAE, The Middle East

Dubai, the Emirate known for its glitz and glam. An Emirate of superlatives, like the Burj Al Arab, the most expensive hotel in the world and the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world (to name a few).

Salamanca, churches, frog spotting and beads

Esfera jewelry, necklace with metal pendant, wooden beads on a leather cord

Salamanca is thought to be the most important university city in Spain. Stroll around the gorgeous old city, declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco, with its beautiful churches, the impressive new cathedral, other splendid historic buildings and its exceptional grand square, the Plaza Mayor. And a bead shop.
