Bracelets with handmade artisan beads, Art Bead Scene January challenge

Esfera Jewelry handmade bracelet

For more then 6 months I have been planning to participate in the monthly Art Bead Scene challenge. And time and time again I found myself wondering what had happened with my time in the first week of the following month.

But not this time. Ok, it is January 30, so I’m close. But it is still January, I'm in time!

Art Bead Scene January 2014 Challenge

This month’s inspiration is a Textile Design made by Lois Mailou Jones.

This is the color palette I made for this challenge.

Color by COLOURlovers

To be honest, this design has a bit too much color to my liking. And a bit too much orange.

I’m not a big fan of orange. Which is strange, coming from the Netherlands, where orange is the color of the nation. But I find this color a bit intimidating. At least that’s what I thought. After designing my first bracelet for this challenge with just a bit of this intimidating color, orange got me going. It is rather a very happy, warm, fun color. So I made another bracelet, this time with a real splash of orange.

Esfera Jewelry, artisan bracelet with handmade lampwork beads

My first bracelet, with just a bit of orange. I picked a lovely handmade lampwork glass bead made by Pikalda and orange/red glass teardrop beads from Unicorn. I paired it with matte off white resin beads and a vintage orange Lucite bead.

A couple of orange glass flowers with a tiny orange crystal and blue seed bead as charms and voila…spring is here. This bracelet is for sale in my etsy shop.

My second bracelet features a beautiful handmade lampwork glass bead made by Dayna Schutter. I combined it with lots of orange ceramic discs (my husband thinks they are candy), keshi pearls and Czech firepolished glass in a beautiful blue/green color.

And this bracelet can be bought in my etsy shop as well.

I enjoyed the challenge very much and was pleasantly surprised I actually like the color orange.

Beautiful bracelets :)

Beautifully sculpted, I love how you used many different bead shapes in your designs!

These two designs are just perfect for our challenge Janine! You have done such a great job of sourcing materials to go perfectly with the inspiration piece. Love those lamp works! I hope you'll continue using orange now :-)

thank you Rebecca

Thank you Rebecca for this lovely compliment. And I have to admit, the color orange starts to appeal to me. I think I will be using it more often.
